Super Yacht Australia CEO and the Soiree of the Year 2022
Monday Feb 21, 2022
Monday Feb 21, 2022
So in this episode I sat down for a chat with Super Yacht CEO David Good. He is also the CEO of AIMEX, the Australian International Marine Export Group who represents the Australian Made banner of marine exports.
Superyacht Australia have been instrumental in lobbying government to change the restrictive import rules on Superyachts to Australia. "The average length of stay for a Super Yacht used to be 40 days, now we are hoping to entice the owners, crews and passengers to stay for up to 200 - 365 years a year given the vast Australian marine availability" says David.
David also served in the Australian Defence which has equipped him with specialised skills in boat operations and when I asked him for an interview I never expected to get an insight into the reality of terrorism. I felt much safer knowing David was in control. Fascinating.
So the Superyacht World Is the reality really Below Decks? or not?

Things to consider when choosing a marina for your boat
Saturday Jan 22, 2022
Saturday Jan 22, 2022
In this episode I'm sharing the considerations and the thoughts you may or may not have thought of before choosing a marina for your boat. As you know we have Empire Marina in Bobbin Head in Sydney, a 200 berth marina in an idyllic location, which is at the top of it's game being 5 Gold Anchor Accredited with the Marina Industries Association and having Waterside Bistro - the Marina Restaurant of the Year for 2021. But we are also now the proud owners of Empire Marina Lake Macquarie - a 250 berth marina in Lake Macquarie - which believe it or not is twice the size of Sydney Harbour. I am also a Director on the Board of the Marina Industries Association. Don't forget I am also a multiple Boat Owner so I see the needs of a consumer in a marina too.
Add to that the fact that I've also seen and been to many other marinas all over the world on ICOMIA events and socially, and as a result through our boating community, I've heard what those who use a marina and work in a marina say when it comes to everything from facilities, location, transport, pricing, parking, insurance, environment, security, tidal access and the marina community. I love sharing all of this knowledge with you to improve your boating lifestyle.
I hope you enjoy this one it's packed with useful information and hopefully makes you think about if you are in the right marina for your boating lifestyle too.

From the small sail boats to racing in the Sydney to Hobart, John is our very own library of all things boating and is the friendly and welcoming persona you'll find in our front office!
We also discuss the start of my career in boating - I only joined this industry some 10 years ago and was a real novice - I hope that's inspiration to other women out there to have a go in this great industry.

Style on the high seas with Duncan Curnow
Saturday Dec 18, 2021
Saturday Dec 18, 2021
In this episode I am speaking to the incredible force that is Duncan Curnow, owner and partner of Ross and Whitcroft and Quality Marine Clothing.
We chat candidly about building niche brands within the Marine Industry and the challenges of creating the clothing that withstands the weather conditions, demands of racing and marine workplaces. Listen as he shares how he grew the one stop shop that is now distributed around the world in retail and online.
I always run into Duncan at the Boat Shows and we have a bit of laugh about the logistics and stress of being on a stand but my favourite stories are the ones about the Big Race - The Sydney to Hobart which Duncan had the opportunity to crew in 2007. Making this episode very timely.
If you are looking to fit out your crew, invest in good quality marine clothing or find fashion for the high seas then reach out to Duncan - he is your one contact, with all the brands, and the convenience of one invoice for everything including corporate wear and gifts as well.
He is also one of our sponsors and for that we are truly grateful.

She is a special member of our boating family
Saturday Nov 06, 2021
Saturday Nov 06, 2021
In this episode I sat down with Michelle, our Office Manager at Empire Marina Bobbin Head. I was excited because we actually got to chat in person (in our function room at Bobbin Head) about being the incredibly important person she is in our business.
Michelle is another guest on this podcast who 'fell into' the boating industry, starting 27 years ago and taking on the full time role so she could stay local and care for her young son, when the Marina was owned by the Halvorsen Family.
Michelle shared her lived history of the Marina from before there were any berths just moorings, to the current day stunning marina with 200 berths and 10 moorings plus a full service hardstand and Waterside Bistro. She talks about her childhood boating experiences, and how hurt she felt being excluded by her father because that's not what girls do!
She shares some funny moments plus there are two very special stories in this episode about Ahn Do, The Happiest Refugee and a pair of young parents that show boating can create special memories that last forever.
Michelle talks of some of the many opportunities she has had in her career, including undertaking the marine managers course ( by the Marina Industries Association) that uplifted her knowledge and understanding, as well as how it introduced her to the network of women in the industry.
Well done Michelle, a fabulous guest and a beautiful person who is valued by our entire team.
Incidentally….Empire Marina Bobbin Head is currently looking for a new receptionist, get in touch if you would like to explore this employment pathway into the boating industry.
